There’s more to life at Barnwell Sixth Form than just gaining your academic qualifications. We want you to achieve your potential and flourish both in and out of the classroom. That is why we encourage all students to get involved and complement their academic studies by taking advantage of our Enrichment Programme.
You can choose from a large variety of activities as part of our Enrichment Programme such as Duke of Edinburgh, Team Sports, or producing our Sixth Form bulletin to name but a few. Some activities will support University applications, others will, simply, allow you to broaden your horizons. During your first two weeks you will be given information about the Enrichment Programme and will be invited to sign up for your chosen activities — you’ll be spoilt for choice!

School Production
The musical gives you the chance to sing, dance and act your way to centre-stage by auditioning to be part of the cast, or if you are more musically inclined, perform by joining the band. Alternatively, if the spotlight is not for you, the musical also provides opportunity for you to play a vital role in helping to run the performance as part of the technical and set design teams. We will announce the musical in September and you will be invited to an audition if you would like to take part.
Ivy House Award
The Award develops leadership and life skills, giving students the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to step up and take ownership of their future.An award-winning programme developed by a team of leading executive coaches in partnership with forward-thinking head teachers, The Award gives students the skills that allow them to become extraordinary leaders, lead extraordinary lives and stay on track regardless of what life throws at them. It enables students to gain clarity on who they are, what they want and equips them with the skills they need to make conscious informed choices about the direction they want their lives to take.

Tomorrow's Teachers
We are thrilled to be launching the Tomorrow's Teachers Programme within our sixth form - a programme to inspire and engage potential or aspiring teachers within our school. It is an opportunity for those students who are interested in teaching to develop a clear sense of what the job involves, what it looks like as a career, and the different things teachers do as part of their working lives.
Over 12 weeks, the course will offer the teachers of tomorrow a taster of life working in school. It will help them to better understand what teaching entails and what skills they will develop if they choose to pursue teaching as a career path. In short, it offers our students a chance to take their first steps on the journey from student to teacher.
We currently have 8 students from Years 12 and 13 enrolled onto the programme and 13 members of teaching staff involved in the delivery of the programme which includes:

Volunteering
Volunteer to help out in your local community whether it be at a carers or charity based work.
Nuffield Reserach Programme
Students work alongside professional scientists / engineers / technicians / mathematicians and completing a real research project at a high level for four weeks. The project will therefore be academically challenging.
Dragons Apprentice Challenge
Year 12 students form teams of 6. Each team is matched with a local business mentor (their dragon) and a local charity or community group. Teams are given £100 and challenged to "turn £100 into £1,000 or more". Dragons provide support in the form of advice, and access to resources, to help their team achieve their business goal and funding target. All profits made by the teams go directly to their allocated charity/community organisation. The challenge runs annually from Sept - March.
Young Enterprise
students find out what it’s really like to set up and run a business. Delivered across an academic year, young people make all the decisions about their company, from raising the initial share capital through to designing their product or service to selling directly to customers and ultimately winding up the company and paying their taxes. All this takes place with the support of a Business Adviser who brings a wealth of business knowledge and expertise to the team. Students can also choose to set up their business as a social enterprise, which focuses on addressing a social need rather than maximising profit.
Students’ behaviour is exemplary. They participate in a range of enrichment opportunities, including exercising leadership, which make a strong contribution to the life of the school' Ofsted - January 2018
