Year 7
Being in Year 7 is fun because you're in a new school meeting new people and making new friends when you first join us. It's great because you get given a map of the school and a planner which makes you feel all organised. All the school activities offered to you make you feel part of the school straight away. It's also nice to have access to the internet in the library as it can be handy for extended learning which is what we call our homework.
Everyone at Barnwell has a Smartcard that you put money on and use to pay for food and drink in the Dining Hall. Having the card means that you do not need to carry money around with you in school.
At lunch time Year 7 eat at a separate time to the rest of the school and have their own toilets open, just for them. This helps people settle in to life at Barnwell.
In addition, the school has Barnwell Buddies. These are Year 10 students trained to help you settle in to life at Barnwell. Our buddies meet you in your Primary School and then look out for you when you join us. New Year 7's can request their own personal Buddy to see them regularly if they would like and the buddies come to form periods to see how you are getting on at school.
There are lots of clubs and activities at Barnwell and it is not a question of "What can I do" but more of "How can I fit it all in".
FIRST DAY
'You'll be alright' said my sister.
Looking forward, all summer,
Nervous parents kiss children goodbye.
A door;
Heart stops.
Nervous-
Shivers hanging in the air-
The tingling of nerves cracking in my throat,
A chill runs down my spine.
Stay calm.
Don't scare.
Beware.
So many people,
Seem to stare.
Worried,but excited too-
Freshness fills the air.
The smell of new books;
An amazing monster of a school,
Staring at me,
The building as big as a new country,
As Russia,
It stomps all over those puny, minute schools.
Under the influence of its power,
We cower.
The noise - Ding-a-ling-a-ring-
The noise deafens my ear.
A colossal amount of people,
Eyes on the windwo to see how they look,
But I,
I am alone.
Inquisitive teachers gather to greet us,
With their infectious Barnwell smiles -
The new beginning started, like a party and everyone's invited,
The new beginning is here.
Rushing to lessons like a swarm of wasps,
People talk in the distance.
Muddy shoes; buzzing bells and slamming lockers - grown-up sounds.
I felt like a chocolate fountain,
Loved and tended and comforted.
My sister said: "You'll be all right".
