As part of the Stevenage 14-19 Partnership, Barnwell School forms half of the Southern Consortium with Heathcote School. Within the Southern Consortium a range of one and two year courses are offered to accommodate the needs of our students. If, however, a student wishes to study a course or combination that we are unable to offer the Stevenage 14-19 Partnership allows the student to study one of their subjects at another school or North Herts College. This is part of a town wide programme to provide maximum opportunities for our students.
For September 2007 and 2008 the Southern Consortium is offering a range of level two and three courses that are shown in the curriculum section of this website.
As a member of the Barnwell School Sixth Form students are able to make full use of the facilities available, these include the Common Room with its own café and Sky Television, Study Room and facilities in the Learning Resource Area.
In addition, Sixth Formers benefit from a supportive guidance programme with teachers identified as their personal learning mentors enabling students to succeed in their studies.
Life in the 6th Form
Barnwell’s Sixth Form is a thriving community. Year 12 and 13 students share excellent facilities; including a newly refurbished Common Room and Study Room, both equipped with computers. The Sixth Form has over 170 students studying a wide range of courses including A levels, BTEC and GNVQ qualifications. An enrichment programme including social and sporting activities are run over the course of the year.
6th Form Prom 2008
On a wonderful sunny evening gowned young ladies and suited gentlemen arrived at the gloriously gothic Knebworth House for their Prom.
A string quarter serenaded the students in the sunken gardens.
The meal was presented in the Barn's followed by giant lawn games such as giant Jenga and connect four. The evening was rounded off with a disco.
Abby Cummings made a wonderful speech and special appearances were made by Mrs Margo Hall, Mrs Jackie Johnson and baby Daniel Johnson.
2007's Prom
This year’s Sixth Form Prom took place on a Thames Disco Boat. A fantastic time was had by all and thank you to our Year 13 students for selecting such a wonderful venue.
