Wednesday the 24th June saw a number of Barnwell students participate in the annual North Herts District Athletics Championships at Ridlins. Barnwell took along a competitive squad from years 7-10 and achieved a respectable level of success.
During the day many of the students participated in their events, with track performers having to run heats to qualify for the finals and field athletes throwing and jumping in straight final. Many of the Barnwell students finished in the top 6 of their field events whilst nearly all performers on the track qualified from their heats and gained entry into the final, which was an achievement in itself.
The following pupils made the final 4 places in their final or won a medal:
1st place & gold medal – Jake Newman yr 9 discus
1st place & gold medal – Andrew Rush yr 7 high jump
2nd Place & silver medal & school record - Paige Fairclough Y7 100m
2nd place & silver medal – Katie Knapman yr10 shot
2nd place & silver medal – Luke Bannister yr 10 shot
3rd place & bronze medal – Tommy Hall yr 9 javelin
3rd place & bronze medal – Mason Carter yr 8 long jump
3rd place & bronze medal – George Glennon yr 7 shot
3rd place & bronze medal – Gemma Danaher yr 7 200m
4th place in final – Chris Lawson yr 9 100m
4th place in final – George Glennon yr 7 200m
4th place in final – Ben Auburn yr 10 high jump
4th place in final – Billy Welch yr 7 long jump
A big well done to all participants and especially to those who were incredibly successful and are in the top 4 of their district.
