Year 7
Students study a varied curriculum, giving them an insight in to all aspects of Design and Technology. Students are rotated on a carrousel system where they study courses in dedicated rooms, using subject teachers teaching with in their own specialist area of this demanding subject.
Autumn / Spring / Summer term
Throughout the year students will be working within the following design and make projects;
Graphic design project
Students are expected to work using various graphics media, designing and making pop-up cards within the “Fantastic pop-ups” topic.
Wind chime
This directed manufacturing task involves the students constructing a fully functioning wind chime to a given design specification. Students will be introduced to the fundamental processes of metal turning as well as working with basic jigs.
Key fob
This design and make project again asks students to design to a chosen theme or audience, experiencing first hand the advantages of the industrial manufacturing technique injection moulding.
Computer control
Students are given the chance develop the ability to write sequences and programmes that control on-screen simulations of products found in our everyday lives, such as car park barriers and traffic lights.
Year 8
Students study a varied curriculum, giving them an insight in to all aspects of Design and Technology. Students are rotated on a carrousel system where they study courses in dedicated rooms, using subject teachers teaching with in their own specialist area of this demanding subject.Autumn / Spring / Summer term
Throughout the year students will be working within the following design and make projects;
Clock project
Students are required to design and manufacture a high quality acrylic clock using a mixture of traditional skills and more modern CAD/CAM equipment as appropriate. Students are encouraged to design a clock for a specific client of their choice.
Year 9
Students study a wide and varied curriculum, furthering their understanding and enjoyment all aspects of Design and Technology in readiness for choosing an area in which to specialise during years 10 and 11. Students continue to be rotated on a carrousel system where they study courses in dedicated rooms, using subject teachers teaching with in their own specialist area of this demanding subject.
Autumn / Spring / Summer term
Throughout the year students will be working within the following design and make projects;
Pull-along Toy
Graphics
Students have the opportunity to develop their understanding and ability to communicate their ideas graphically. Students are set a theme and then guided through the design process, starting with initial design ideas which are them narrowed down and adapted further in to developed designs before being analysed again and developed further allowing them to progress through to a workable final solution. Areas such as 3D Isometric drawings, texture and tone shading are exploited throughout.
