Post 16 Offer
"Outstanding Provision" Ofsted Feb 2009
We offer an excellent range of Post 16 courses that provide pathways to success for our students. The progress made by our students in Years 12 and 13 in 2008 (called Contextual Value Added) was the best in Stevenage and North Herts and in the top 10 in Hertfordshire.
To make the transition into our Sixth Form as smooth as possible are currently interviewing each of our year 11 students, and guiding them into the most appropriate post-16 provision. Staff interviewing have an expertise in the needs of the students concerned and the pathways available to them.Parents are welcome to contact us at any time to be involved in ongoing discussions about courses and options.
Students are able to choose from a very wide range of subjects, offered both at Level 3 and Level 2.
LEVEL 3 = 5 or more A* - C Grades
Students taking a Level 3 course usually choose one Level 3 subject from each of 4 blocks (A to E).
In the fifth block time is given for a Guidance and Support programme and the possibility exists to take another course such as ASDAN, Healthy Exercise, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or a GCSE.
LEVEL 2 and 3 = Borderline 5 A* - C Grades
Some students will be able to take a mixture of Level 2 and 3 courses. These will be discussed on an individual basis. Subjects chosen must be in different blocks (A to E)
LEVEL 2 = 5 or less A* - G Grades
Students take three or four subjects and also take the guidance programme in a fourth or fifth block.
In the Spring and Summer terms we consider all applications for the Sixth Form and students make a provisional choice of subjects to study. The final decision of what subjects to take is made with students after their GCSE results in August. All students who apply to join our Sixth Form have an individual interview at the end of August/beginning of September to confirm their subject choices.
