*Important information regarding Study Leave*
The decision has been made that there will be a modified study leave and that all lessons at Barnwell will continue until the examination in that subject. (Study leave arrangements at Heathcote and other centres may be different and students will need to clarify these with their subject staff). Year 12 Level 3 students will return to school on Monday 14th June and will begin their A2 studies, regardless if they wish to pursue this subject in Year 13 or not. All Year 13 lessons will end on Thursday 27th May 2010.
"Outstanding Provision " - Ofsted Feb 2009
Barnwell School's Sixth Form is a large and thriving part of our school community. Exam performance judged by Value Added is above the national average and the size of the Sixth Form allows us to provide over 30 `A' Levels. When the government published in January 2009 the national 2009 Post 16 results, Barnwell came out very well. When measuring progress made in Years 12-13 our Contextual Value Added or CVA was the highest in Stevenage and North Herts and in the top ten in Hertfordshire. This was reflected in our Ofsted Inspection in Feb 2009 that noted all aspects of the Sixth Form as Good and Outstanding.
With around 250 students studying Post 16 courses we offer a very wide range of subjects at Level 2 and Level 3. In addition, our students benefit from a very large, brand new study and social area which includes a computer suite with over 50 PC's, a cafe area and social facilities.
As part of the Stevenage 14-19 Partnership, Barnwell School forms half of the Southern Consortium with Heathcote School. If a student wishes to study a course or combination that we are unable to offer, the Stevenage 14-19 Partnership allows the students to study one of their subjects at another school or North Herts College. This is part of a town wide programme to provide maximum opportunities for our students.
