ICT

KS3

All students study a comprehensive course in ICT at Key Stage 3 having one lesson per week in a fully equipped ICT suite, complete with interactive whiteboard.

The course aims to develop pupil’s skills in and knowledge of ICT throughout KS3, equipping them to take on the challenge of our broad KS4 curriculum.

Year 7

Processing text and images using DTP, Digital Camera and Scanner.

Using ICT - including Presentation software, camera and Scanner.

E Safety – use of the internet, word processing software.

Control – Using the LOGO and FLOWOL software.

Rules and Investigations – Learning to use Spreadsheets

Data – Learning to use a Database.

Year 8

Information: Reliability,validity and Bias – Internet and Presentation software Data use and misuse – Wordprocessing software

Models: presenting numeric data – Use of a spreadsheet in a practical scenario Publishing on the web – HTML, publisher and Dreamweaver software

Creating a Database – Developing a database in a practical scenario Chocolate factory marketing a chocolate bar – Digital blue

Year 9

Control Systems - FLOWOL, Presentation

Game database project – Access

Fashion Show – DTP, Spreadsheet, Word processing, Database, Presentation Fireworks.

KS4

GCSE ICT

The department delivers the AQA Specification ‘A’ Course, which is a two year full GCSE.

BTEC Diploma ICT – The BTEC Diploma is equivalent to four GCSE’s

Coursework Comprises 6 units to be completed over two years

Core Units:

Unit 1: Using ICT to Present Information

Unit 2: Introduction to Computer Systems

Specialist Units:

Unit 4: Website Development

Unit 9 and 10: Database and Spreadsheet Software

Unit 18: ICT Graphics

Unit 21: Doing Business Online

BTEC Certificate ICT – The BTEC Certificate is equivalent to two GCSE’s

Coursework Comprises 3 units to be completed over two years to gain the full award

Core Unit: Using ICT to present information

Specialist Units: Unit 2: Introduction to Computer Systems

Unit 9 & 10 (2 half units): Database and Spreadsheet Software

Specialist Diploma Information Technology Level 2 - The Specialist Diploma Level 2 is equivalent to seven GCSE's at grades A* to C

The Diploma is a new qualification which combines classroom learning with practical hands-on experience.

The Diploma gives you the opportunity to learn in new ways and different environments, not just in the classroom. It contains a mix of essential knowledge and skills, such as teamwork, self management and critical thinking, as well as work relevant practical learning. Part of your course will involve ten days of work experience and throughout the course you will gain access to employers in and around Stevenage

KS5

GCE Applied ICT

Students will study 6 of the following units in depth:

Unit 1 – The Information Age

  • ePortfolio - Internet searching and multi-media content gathering and creation for the development of an eBook for Life in the Information Age using Dreamweaver, Fireworks and MS Movie Maker.

Unit 2 - The Digital Economy

Unit 3 - The Knowledge Worker

  • eExam - Develop your skills as a knowledge worker to select and manipulate information using spreadsheet modeals to turn information into knowledge using an exam based scenario.

Unit 7 - Using Database Software

Unit 8 - Managing ICT Projects

Unit 10 - Using Multimedia Software

  • ePortfolio - The development of a eLearning multi-media educational product where you create several multi-media components combining Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, MS Movie Maker and Audacity.

iMedia

iMedia leads on from everything you may have learnt from gaming and creative new media both at school and in your own time. It enables you to gain relevant workplace skills and techniques to keep you one step ahead of the crowd studying dreary courses in spreadsheets and databases. You can choose to specialise in digital and interactive media areas such as web authoring, 3D game engines, digital animation or interactive multimedia design.

Depending on the modules you choose to follow you may learn how to:

  • Design a video game
  • Produce and edit a video sequences for use within multimedia
  • Create a 3D model for a particular purpose
  • Use a digital animation program to create a digital animation
  • Create, manage and upload a site considering accessibility
  • Produce, author and evaluate multimedia content from a variety of sources including image, sound, video and text
  • Use computer software to create digital sound files to an agreed specification
