Performing Arts

Encapsulating drama, dance and theatre studies this performing arts section is dedicated to all the fabulous performances that Barnwell students take part in throughout the year.

Grease

The Summer Production this year was Grease. Unfortauntely due to copyright constraints we are unable to provide photographs or video. However the production was a tremendous success and thoroughly enjoyed by all the students that took part, the staff that ensured a smooth show and the packed out audience!

BTEC Celebration

There are plenty of pictures of the BTEC Celebration under the photos tab (above)

Singin' in the Rain

The Summer Production for 2009 was Gene Kelly's famous 1952 musical Singin' in the Rain.

The students from all years provided two evening and one matinee performance that was truly outstanding.

Please see the photo's section for plenty of pictures.

 Gym, Dance and Trampoline Celebration

Over 70 students danced, leapt and bounced their way through a tremendous evening performance on the Thursday evening before  half term at the Gym, Dance and Trampoline Celebration.

With an amazing backdrop of lighting and to an excellent sound system, each performance was fantastic. The hard work of each and every performer shone through.

Well done to all involved and thank you to the Leisure Centre staff for their help and support.

See Photo's section for some pictures.

  Rock Challenge 2009

Gordon Craig Theatre -Tuesday 24th February 2009

“This year our production has been wholly student-driven in that we have incorporated the area of student leadership throughout the entire process using Sixth Form BTEC Performing Arts students from dance and drama as pro-active managers of all aspects of the production.”

This years demanding Rock Challenge took the skills of over 70 students and 7 staff to produce the performing arts spectacular.

With the Theme being “Sex & Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll….?” Warning: Stardom can seriously damage your health. The students’ performance encapsulated the idealism and realism of what it would be like to live the good life, celebrating talent and inspiration without glamorising the unnatural high.

The soundtrack this year was amazing, with classic titles such as Fire  and Voodoo Child from Jimi Hendrix, Life on Mars from David Bowie  and Whitelines by Grand Master Flash and Melle Mell.

The team won 3rd place overall with special awards for:

  • Best  Soundtrack
  • The Cultural and Educational Achievement Award
  • School Community Support Award

Rock Challenge: Regional Heat: 2008

The wonderful performance at the Gordon Craig Theatre won the students seven awards.

  • The Hertfordshire Police Award for Best Drama Skills
  • The Stevenage Community Safety Partnership Award for Healthy Lifestyle
  • The Connexions Award for Media Management
  • The Stevenage Borough Council Award for Best Hair and Make-up Design
  • The Chiltern Radio Award for Best Soundtrack
  • The Hertfordshire Police Award for School Community Support
  • The Herts in Trust Award for Most Entertaining Performance
