At Barnwell music is taught across the entire age range up to and including A/AS level.

All pupils are given the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments, including all the standard orchestral instruments, as well as piano, guitar and percussion. Singing lessons are also available.

In addition to the standard GCSE and GCE examinations, pupils are able to take both the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations and Trinity music examinations.

There are numerous extended curriculum activities including orchestras, ensembles, choirs and various vocal groups. Concerts, workshops and productions form an important part of school life and help to facilitate strong community links.

Music is an active part of the Expressive Arts area and pupils are encouraged to explore the many and varied links between music, art, dance and drama.
